Defenders of Wildlife: Policy Explainer: Gray Wolves in the U.S.
Overview
Defenders of Wildlife commissioned us to create a clear and engaging animated explainer video focused on the complex and often contentious policy surrounding gray wolves in the United States. "Policy Explainer: Gray Wolves in the U.S." was designed to demystify the intricacies of wolf conservation policy, highlighting the ongoing debates around federal protections, state management, and the ecological impact of these apex predators. Our challenge was to distill complex legal and scientific information into a digestible and visually appealing format, ultimately educating viewers and fostering informed advocacy for wolf conservation. The video needed to be both informative and persuasive, driving viewers to understand the urgency of protecting gray wolf populations.
Approach
Our approach to "Policy Explainer: Gray Wolves in the U.S." centered on clarity and accessibility. We began by collaborating closely with Defenders of Wildlife's policy experts to ensure the accuracy and relevance of the information presented. The animation style was designed to be clean and modern, using clear graphics and concise text overlays to break down complex policy concepts. A dynamic, infographic-style approach was adopted to visually represent data and timelines, making the information easy to follow. We prioritized a neutral and factual tone, presenting both sides of the debate while emphasizing the scientific consensus on the ecological importance of wolves. The animation was structured to guide viewers through the history of wolf management, the current policy landscape, and the potential consequences of various policy decisions. We used a combination of animated maps, charts, and character-driven scenarios to illustrate key points, ensuring that the video was both informative and engaging. The goal was to empower viewers with the knowledge they needed to advocate for effective wolf conservation policies.
