UN Human Rights: Digital Technologies and Migration

Overview

UN Human Rights commissioned us to produce an educational video exploring the complex relationship between digital technologies and the human rights of migrants. "Digital Technologies and Migration" aimed to shed light on how digital tools, while offering potential benefits, can also exacerbate vulnerabilities and create new challenges for migrants. Our challenge was to create a visually compelling and informative video that would raise awareness of these issues, promote understanding, and encourage responsible use of technology in the context of migration. We needed to highlight both the opportunities and the risks, emphasizing the importance of upholding human rights in the digital age. The video also needed to be accessible to a global audience with varying levels of digital literacy.

Approach

Our approach to "Digital Technologies and Migration" was grounded in human-centered storytelling and a commitment to accuracy. We began by conducting thorough research and collaborating closely with UN Human Rights experts to ensure the video accurately reflected the complexities of the subject matter. The animation style was designed to be clear and engaging, using a combination of character animation, motion graphics, and real-world examples to illustrate key points. We prioritized creating a narrative that was both informative and empathetic, highlighting the diverse experiences of migrants and the impact of digital technologies on their lives. We used a visual language that was accessible and culturally sensitive, avoiding stereotypes and promoting understanding. The video's structure followed a logical progression, starting with an overview of the role of digital technologies in migration, then exploring the specific human rights challenges, and finally offering recommendations for responsible use. We emphasized the importance of data privacy, security, and accessibility, and highlighted the need for inclusive and equitable digital solutions. We aimed to empower viewers with knowledge and inspire them to advocate for the protection of migrants' human rights in the digital age.
